Lackawaxen River

If you like plenty of moving water, blue sky, warm weather, and eagles, you would have loved our trip last Friday. I was joined by Mike Capizzi and Jim Piombino in one canoe and me in my 14’ Old Town Cascade. We met at 11:30 AM at the Zane Grey Museum parking lot, put Mike’s boat on my double rack and made our way to the put in. After we got to the Kittatiny property we were met by a gentlemen who took our $5 per boat and $5 per car fee. We were in the water by 12:30 PM.

It could not have been more perfect. The white water sections were high so that there were plenty of wave trains and not too many rock gardens. This was a boaters release by the PP&L from Lake Wallenpaupack. We did see some other paddlers at the put in, however, we did not see anyone else on the river until we got to the take out at Zane Grey on the Delaware. I guess that is because it was a Friday. Also, because there was so much water, a trip that usually takes approximately 3 hours was complete in 2 hours not counting ½ hour for lunch, and neither Mike nor I went swimming. I look forward to doing the trip again on July 29th. If you are interested in joining me, see the web site for the details.
