Cedar Creek, NJ

Perfect weather was the theme of the day for six kayakers enjoying beautiful Cedar Creek in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. Attendees included Janet Robinson, Anton Getz, Robert Zerby, Herta Dusebout, Monica Orso, and me. We started out at the Ore Pond boat launch and headed toward Dudley Park. The water level, although low, was better than last year and plenty enough for a pleasant paddle.

After Robert helped everyone over a couple of beaver dams, it was smooth sailing until we pulled up to the lunch spot. Unlike our normal, relaxing lunch along the river, we were accompanied by a large group of young adults that were having a grand time on their company paddling picnic. Coolers full of beer and food, and multiple games in the water and on land, along with chanting and yelling was our dining entertainment.

We continued down river where Anton found a wide array of trash to collect including multiple shoes, a bag of potato chips that were still crunchy, a full beer, and a full bottle of rum (we think/hope it was rum inside…). Upon passing one of the beach areas, a runaway dog jumped into the water and tried to hitch a ride in Monica’s boat. Cute as he was, I’m sure Monica was happy that he never quite got into the boat.

After packing up at Dudley Park, Monica, Herta, and I went over to the Shady Rest for a tasty dinner and beer. It was a very pleasant paddle, on a beautiful creek, on a gorgeous day!
