CAUTION: LOW WATER LEVEL
Can still be a lot of fun on a beautiful spring day.
Six of us made the trek from NJ to Litchfield Co., CT for our annual run on the Shepaug River. We started at Bee Brook above Washington Depot and ran through Steep Rock Reservation. The river was running at the lowest level we've encountered in seven of the last eight years. It made for a lot of work trying to avoid rocks and find enough water to pass over many, many gravel bars.
But...a nice sunny day, many pairs of Common Mergansers, a Winter Wren, Bluebird, Belted Kingfisher and a mature Bald Eagle near the Roxbury take out that let us pass underneath made it more than worthwhile.
Thanks to all that made it (Alex T., Michael C., Phil M., Paul D.) and especially to Bob Cohn for the great photos.
