After almost cancelling the trip because looking at the weather report of possible thunderstorms I decided to just go anyway since I wasn't driving too far and we had cancelled another trip earlier that ended up being a beautiful day. This trip looked like it could go either way, but ended up with not even a drop of precipitation. It was windy, though! At first paddling to the planned south the wind picked up when there wasn't any grassland to block it, so ended up turning around and going up a regular channel. Once in one of the channels, being high tide with very little water movement we managed to move along pretty well. We had 11 people. 7 solo kayaks (2 rentals), one tandem kayak, and one tandem canoe. After about 2 hours "moseying around" maybe around 3 miles we were back at the launch when the sun decided to give us a really nice sunset, although we didn't stay to the end as it wasn't until 8:30, but had a nice picnic for about an hour. We saw a few herons, marsh wrens -mostly heard rather than seen- a few ducks, maybe a loon, a few cormorants, a few Boeings and Airbuses and a huge barge with tugboat.
Hope to do this trip again soon in calmer seas.
