It was a wonderful day for the New Members Orientation and Paddle on Monksville Reservoir. Glorious weather greeted the 14 new (or nearly new) members and guests who came out to try their hand at paddling. Fourteen of the club's existing members were on hand to help out. Martin W. started us off with some hints on making sure your boat stays on the car top. Rich H. talked about safety and club rules on the water followed by a live demo on the water of basic strokes by Bill B. as narrated by Jeff B. Thanks also to Robyn L. and so many others for helping out.
Noted waterfowl were a swan, several cormorants, and a great blue heron.
In all there were 23 kayaks and 4 canoes (one tandem) on the water. As testimony to the skill of all participants (as well as calm water) there were no wet exits and no one was lost.
