Housatonic River
West Cornwall to North Kent, CT

A beautiful day on a beautiful river: In a low water season there was still around 800cfs flowing through the Falls Village gauge. It was sunny very warm but a steady and swirling upriver wind made for some hard work. However, it's breeding bird season and there was no end to the sights and sounds of many species along the river. There were an uncounted number of yellow warblers, warbling vireos, red-wing blackbirds, robins, swallow's, catbirds and Eastern Kingbirds.

In addition, at our lunch stop we watched an Eastern Phoebe leave and return to her nest many times. A northern Oriole was spotted and others heard. Three Bald Eagles, lots of turkey vultures and Common Mergansers, Great Blue Herons, Belted Kingfishers and a Red Tail Hawk rounded out the day. Thanks to Paul D and Bob Z for a great day on the water.
