Cedar Creek

They always say, third time is a charm, right? Well, finally the third time I tried to run a Cedar Creek trip and not only did it happen, but the weather and water levels could not have been more perfect. Eleven people paddled the twisty, pine lined river, and the fleet included 2 canoes, 8 kayaks, and one blow up kayak. Normally there is plenty to climb over on Cedar Creek, but the water level was quite high, meaning that this time we were able to “shake and bake” over the beaver dams. And someone has been doing a great job of clearing downed trees. Other than portaging over the cement dam, there was no need to get out of the boats.
We did however decide to make a stop for lunch and to cool off in the clear, red water. Some dipped, some floated, and some stayed dry. But one who got wet ended up getting very attached to a water based creature (check out the photos to see what it was). Even with that, it did not deter us from taking a second dip later in the day.
After the paddle, we had a nice tailgate at Dudley Park with snacks and beverages. We even had live music. Thanks Ted! All in all, a lovely paddle, with great company, on a beautiful river in central NJ. Not a bad way to spend a Monday!
